Eliso Bolkvadze, the member of Georgian Dream and the parliament was asked today by the journalists whether 178 GEL set as the Subsistence Minimum in Georgia was adequate and fair, and if the poverty in Georgia is considered as a major issue.
“I’m not saying there is no poverty, of course, there is. I’m looking at people myself who are often digging in the trash and I know what it is, but that happens in Paris too,” Eliso Bolkvadze replied.
She added that Georgia faces social and economic difficulties due to the current epidemiological situation, as does the whole world, therefore the talks over the fact that the subsistence level has been reduced by 5 GEL is a speculation.
“This is a research topic, I do not know which research you are relying on, other examinations are needed. Do you know a country where there is no poverty? There is poverty in many countries. There is a very large amplitude between the rich and the poor and there is no middle class which is a problem for the whole world”, MP stated.
She said that 178 GEL is low, but in order to have more, people may have to die ,
“There should be a peaceful life and less scaring the tourists, threat to the economy and destroying this country,” Bolkvadze added.
