Tbilisi City Hall reports that the historic cableway from the Soviet era, connecting Rustaveli Avenue and Mtatsminda, has been opened over a decade since its rehabilitation began.
The project, costing GEL 50 million, stretches for 845 meters and features 21 gondolas with the capacity to transfer up to 1,200 passengers per hour.
The cable car system, reconstructed by the company ‘Dagi,’ was shut down in 1990 and was non-functional for 34 years due to numerous technical challenges.
The cable car routes will be operated by the Tbilisi Transport Company.
