The Legal Affairs Committee supported the “Amnesty” bill in the first reading.

Regarding the draft law, they will discuss and vote on it at an extraordinary plenary session today.

Based on the project, amnesty will be extended to a number of crimes committed before July 1, 2024. In particular, persons convicted of the crimes provided for in Article 66 of the “Criminal Code” will be fully exempted from punishment or the punishment will be reduced by 1/2 or 1/4. In addition, the reduction of the sentence by 1/6 will apply to Article 225 of the “Criminal Code”.

The amnesty will not apply to persons convicted of murder, drug dealers, sexual crimes, robbery, terrorism, corruption and official crimes, the underworld, conventional crimes, trafficking and other serious and especially serious crimes.

In addition, Georgian Dream says  approximately 7,000 people will have their conditional sentences reduced by one year.

The Parliament will adopt the bill “On Amnesty” in the first reading at an extraordinary session. The second-third reading will continue within the autumn session.
