The Committee discussed with the I reading and approved the legal initiative of the Government on transport reform, introduced by the Deputy Economic Minister, Guram Guramishvili along with the accompanying Bill on Railway Code.
“The reform envisages the changes to ensure security and state oversight on the sector, which is partially enforced at present. Under the Association Agreement, we have 8 directives to be fulfilled in the railway sphere, 3 of which are already inculcated, and the Draft envisages the enforcement of 3 more directives,” he clarified.
The reforms aim at the development and efficiency of railway transport in Georgia as the safest, greenest and most sustainable transportation means.
“The legal package facilitates the legal harmonization with the EU, safe cargo transportation, and higher qualification of the personnel, namely, enginemen,” the Chair of the Committee, Maka Botchorishvili noted.
