The Georgian Foreign Ministry has responded to a statement from Sergei Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, in which he said that Washington was dissatisfied with the Georgian Dream party because “the party is not fulfilling the agreement to strictly follow the Euro-Atlantic integration course, which is why the United States intends to weaken the positions of the Georgian Dream and strengthen the opposition.”
The Agency noted that “the statement of the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, is another expression of the Russian Federation’s hybrid war against Georgia and a provocative step aimed at provoking destabilization in Georgia.
“Against the background of illegal occupation and annexation policy of Georgia, the Russian Federation is constantly trying to actively interfere in Georgia’s sovereign choice, using the elements of hybrid warfare and other means, related to the democratic development of the country, its membership in the European and Euro-Atlantic family.
“Similarly, the Russian Federation is trying to spread nihilism in society, to provoke polarization and confrontation in the country, which affects not only Georgia but also peace and stability in the region in general.
“This time, the Russian Federation is trying to discredit the very close relations between Georgia and its main strategic partner, the United States, which has reached the highest level in recent years,” reads the statement released by the Foreign Ministry.
For the record, the head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service, Sergei Naryshkin, issued an official statement saying that Washington is dissatisfied with the recent actions of the Georgian Dream.
“The US, since the ruling of Mikheil Saakashvili, has been used to managing political processes “mechanically”, dictating how the government should act and what relations it should have with the opposition. Recently, there has been growing dissatisfaction in Washington with the actions of the ruling team, the Georgian Dream, which refuses to follow American instructions without appeal.
“The White House is outraged that the ‘dreamers’ are not fully fulfilling the agreement – to strictly follow the course of Euro-Atlantic integration,” the agency said in a statement.
In the same letter, Naryshkin writes that in order to “restore order” in Georgia, the United States intends to support the opposition and, at the same time, weaken the positions of the Georgian Dream.
