‘Brighton 4th’ Wins Best Film at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea Film Festival

Georgian director Levan Koguashvili’s Brighton 4th has won best film at the inaugural edition of Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival, unfolding in Jeddah from December 6-15, screendaily.com reports.

The title is Georgia’s entry in the Academy Awards international feature category this year.

There were 16 features from the Middle East and Africa in the inaugural competition.

‘Brighton 4th’ tells the story of a retired Georgian wrestler who travels to the United States to help his son out of a gambling debt.

The film won the best picture award at Asian World Film Festival 2021 in Los Angeles. At the Tribeca Film Festival 2021, it won three awards: best international film, best actor for Levan Tediashvili, and best screenplay for Boris Frumin. At FilmFestival Cottbus 2021, the film also won three awards: Outstanding Individual Performance, for Levan Tediashvili; also the FIPRESCI Prize, and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury.
