The United National Movement has given the authorities 24 hours to transfer Mikheil Saakashvili to a civil hospital, party chairman Nika Melia announced at a rally outside the Rustavi Prison.
“We are giving the government 24 hours to transfer Mikheil Saakashvili to a civil hospital. Bidzina Ivanishvili has 24 hours. If anyone has any grain of common sense in power, they should make the right decision and take him to a place where his life and health will be ensured,” Melia said.
If their demand is not met, the opposition announces large-scale protests countrywide.
The former President of Georgia was arrested on October 1 and has been on a hunger strike for 37 days. The government refuses to take him to a civil hospital.
