Latvia’s parliament has approved restrictions on imports of books, newspapers, video games and other goods from Russia and Belarus, Euronews reports.
The measures are part of Latvia’s broader efforts to reduce economic ties with Russia and Belarus following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The restrictions will apply to a range of products, including books, periodicals, video games, toys, clothing, footwear and sporting goods. Latvian lawmakers said some of the targeted items could be used to spread propaganda and disinformation.
The new rules will also cover goods originating from Russia or Belarus that enter Latvia through third countries.
Latvia’s government will determine the final list of products subject to the restrictions. The measures are expected to remain in place until July 1, 2027.
Euronews reported that imports of the affected goods from Russia and Belarus totaled €12.5 million in 2025, representing a small share of Latvia’s overall imports.
