Kobakhidze says Trump’s letter fuels hopes for reset in US-Georgia relations

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said a letter from US President Donald Trump in response to his visit to the US Embassy for Independence Day celebrations is an encouraging signal that relations between Georgia and the United States could soon be reset.

“It is very important for us that the President of the United States responded to my visit to the US Embassy on the occasion of US Independence Day with such a positive letter,” Kobakhidze said.

Prime Minister claimed that the message reinforces the Georgian government’s hope that bilateral ties can be restored.

“We have often said that our goal is to completely reset our relations, restore the strategic partnership and do all of this from a clean slate, with a concrete roadmap. Such messages keep us optimistic that relations may soon be reset. This is our desire, and we are patiently waiting for a firm position from the American side on this issue,” Kobakhidze said.

US President Donald Trump sent the letter to thank Kobakhidze for his congratulations on US Independence Day, announced the Georgian Government Administration.

In the letter, Trump said that Georgia and the United States could achieve significant progress by working together to support the sovereignty, security and long-term prosperity of both countries.
