Tbilisi City Hall has announced a state procurement tender for the preparation of design and cost documentation for the construction, restoration and rehabilitation of water supply, drainage and sewage networks across the capital.
The tender announcement comes after heavy rainfall on July 6-7 caused flooding on several central streets of Tbilisi.
The estimated value of the electronic tender (NAT260014063) is GEL 170,000, including VAT. Companies can submit bids from July 17 until July 20, while the service period is set from the date the contract enters into force until December 25, 2026.
Speaking at a Tbilisi government meeting, Mayor Kakha Kaladze said the city faces significant challenges related to underground infrastructure, and the municipality plans to address the issue.
“There are two main reasons why certain streets are flooded: one is when drainage systems are blocked by fallen tree branches, leaves and waste. The other is the lack or outdated condition of drainage networks,” Kaladze said.
He added that since 2017, the municipality has prioritized the rehabilitation of underground infrastructure whenever it starts work on streets and avenues.
“Whenever we begin rehabilitation works, the first thing we do is arrange underground communications. We face a serious challenge in terms of underground infrastructure across the city. We will not be able to solve everything at once, but all problems will be addressed gradually,” Kaladze said.
The selected company will be responsible for preparing the full design and cost documentation required for the construction and rehabilitation of water supply, drainage and sewage networks in different districts of Tbilisi.
