Part of Tbilisi International Airport was flooded on Tuesday after heavy rainfall, temporarily disrupting operations and causing a power outage.
Airport officials said passengers were evacuated from the affected area as a safety precaution after electricity was cut.
“The situation was caused by severe weather conditions. Our technical team is working on-site and will resolve the problem as quickly as possible. For safety reasons, passengers were evacuated after the power outage,” the airport told Interpressnews.
In a later statement, Tbilisi International Airport said it continues to operate normally despite the heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Airport says the waiting area in the arrivals hall was temporarily closed in line with safety protocols to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. Arriving passengers are currently exiting the terminal through the domestic flights exit.
The airport also said that only three flights were diverted due to the adverse weather, to the airports in Kutaisi, Almaty, and Baku.
Electricity has since been fully restored, and airport operations have resumed without disruption. Passengers are advised to check the latest flight information with their airline or through the airport’s official information channels.
