Cargo throughput at Georgia’s ports and terminals increased in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Geostat shows.
A total of 4.317 million tons of cargo were processed, up 19.7% year-on-year.
General cargo accounted for 49.1% of the total, followed by liquid cargo at 30.4% and bulk cargo at 20.4%.
Despite the growth in cargo volumes, the number of ship arrivals declined. A total of 401 ships entered Georgian ports and terminals, down by 50 compared to the same period last year.
General cargo vessels made up 51.6% of arrivals, while liquid cargo carriers accounted for 19.2%, container ships 19.2%, and the remaining share was split between bulk and specialised vessels.
Arrivals fell across most categories, including a 23% drop in liquid cargo carriers, an 8.7% decrease in specialised vessels, an 8.4% fall in general cargo carriers, a 6.1% decline in container ships, and a 5% decrease in bulk carriers.
Most ships entered under the Panamanian flag, accounting for 18.2% of total arrivals. Turkey followed with 13.7%, Liberia with 10%, and Malta with 7.5%, while other countries made up 50.6%.
Passenger traffic through Georgian ports rose by 53.6% to 3,200 passengers. Departing passengers accounted for 55.3% of total passenger flow.
