Traffic will be gradually restricted in central Tbilisi due to events marking Georgia’s Independence Day, City Hall says.
The restrictions will affect areas surrounding the Presidential Palace, the Dry Bridge, Freedom Square and Rustaveli Avenue between May 20-28.
Restrictions near Presidential Palace, Dry Bridge
Traffic on Atoneli Street has already been restricted since 08:00 on May 20 and will remain closed until the end of May 28.
Additional restrictions on Italy and Atoneli streets near the Dry Bridge will apply from May 24 through May 28.
Drivers traveling from Soliko Virsaladze and Giorgi Chanturia streets toward Atoneli Street will be redirected via Italy Street and the Dry Bridge.
Vehicles leaving the right bank of the Mtkvari River from Rena Abzhandadze Street will move through Vakhtang Orbeliani and Mtkvari streets.
Freedom Square, Rustaveli Avenue closures
Traffic from Kote Abkhazi and Shalva Dadiani streets toward Freedom Square will be prohibited from 20:00 on May 20 until 01:00 on May 21 and from 10:00 to 14:00 on May 21 and May 22.
Rustaveli Avenue, from Freedom Square to the intersection with Zurab Chichinadze Street, will be fully closed from 00:00 on May 24 until 08:00 on May 27.
Vehicles traveling along Rustaveli Avenue will only be allowed as far as Gia Chanturia Street before being redirected toward the embankment through Chanturia and Virsaladze streets.
Traffic toward Freedom Square from Rustaveli Avenue will only be permitted up to the ‘Gallery’ shopping center before drivers must turn back.
Alternative routes
During the restrictions, traffic will remain open on Giorgi Leonidze, Pavle Ingorokva, Aleksandre Chavchavadze, Aleksandre Griboedov, Nikoloz Baratashvili and Revaz Tabukashvili streets.
City Hall also says traffic direction on Ivane Machabeli Street will be temporarily changed, allowing drivers to travel from Lado Asatiani Street toward Giorgi Leonidze Street.
