Georgia’s national sambo team won 13 medals at the European Sambo Championships held in Tbilisi.
The Georgian team finished the tournament with one gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.
Avto Mukbaniani won Georgia’s only gold medal in the 64 kg category.
Silver medals were claimed by Nino Odzelashvili (72 kg), Nika Sidamonidze (98 kg), Mirza Tsikhelashvili (58 kg), Vakhtang Chidrashvili (58 kg) and Luka Tsikvadze (79 kg).
Bronze medals went to Elene Kebadze (+80 kg), Mariam Lapachishvili (54 kg), Beka Dzaganishvili (88 kg), Giorgi Kavtaradze (+98 kg), Jaba Turkia (71 kg), Irakli Talakhadze (64 kg) and Giorgi Egnatashvili (88 kg).
The final day of the tournament was attended by the Minister of Sports of Georgia, Shalva Gogoladze, and Deputy Minister Irakli Dolaberidze.
Around 300 athletes from 34 countries participated in the championship.
This was the second time Tbilisi hosted the European Sambo Championships. The Georgian capital first hosted the continental tournament in 2008.
