U.S. Senator Jim Risch has criticized Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, accusing it of weakening democracy and moving the country away from its Western path.
In a post on X, Risch condemned the passage of ‘draconian laws’ and the alleged use of the justice system against political opponents. He warned that the government’s actions are leading Georgia toward authoritarianism.
“The U.S.-Georgia relationship is built on shared values, which the current government has repeatedly rejected,” Risch wrote. He also expressed concern over Tbilisi’s growing ties with China and Russia.
