TV Pirveli crew attacked, cameraman seriously injured

The crew of TV Pirveli was attacked while covering the 10th night of pro-European rallies in Tbilisi. Journalist Maka Chikhladze and cameraman Giorgi Shetsiruli were injured.

Both of them claim that the individuals wearing masks physically assaulted them, while the cameraman sustained serious head injuries.

“They kicked me, hit me, including in the face,” says Maka Chikhladze.

She claims that their equipment, including a microphone, was seized by the mentioned persons.

Another night of rallying began at 7pm on Rustaveli Avenue. The road was quickly blocked by demonstrators. Police cordons were set up in the area, while groups of “special forces” wearing masls roamed the streets beating and assaulting protesters gathered on the spot.

It is the 10th day since intense protests began in Tbilisi and elsewhere in the country. Citizens are protesting the decision Georgian Dream made on November 28 that Georgia will not put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028.
