The United States and Iran have issued conflicting statements over the status of nuclear negotiations, while global oil prices continued to fall following their sharpest one-day decline in nearly four months.
US President Donald Trump said talks with Iran were continuing, but Iran’s Foreign Ministry denied that any negotiations were currently taking place. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held separate phone conversations with his Saudi Arabian and Omani counterparts.
Oil prices extended Monday’s losses in early Tuesday trading. Brent crude, the global benchmark, fell a further 2.9% after plunging 11.3% in the previous session, marking its biggest daily decline in almost four months.
Separately, Trump is scheduled to hold talks at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. White House official says the meetings are expected to focus on the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
