US President Donald Trump has arrived in the Chinese capital of Beijing for a two-day official visit, where he received a ceremonial welcome upon landing.
Trump was greeted at the airport with a red carpet reception, while around 300 Chinese children dressed in blue and white uniforms waved American and Chinese flags. As a sign of the visit’s significance, China’s Vice President Han Zheng personally welcomed the US president in Beijing.
Han Zheng and Donald Trump walked together along the red carpet as children chanted “Welcome.”
Accompanying the US president in Beijing are members of his national security and economic team, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who arrived in Beijing via Seoul after holding trade talks with his Chinese counterpart.
More than a dozen senior business leaders are also in Beijing for the visit, including CEO of Apple Tim Cook, CEO of Tesla Elon Musk, and President and CEO of Boeing Kelly Ortberg. Executives from companies including Meta, BlackRock, Blackstone, Cargill, Citi, Coherent, GE Aerospace, Goldman Sachs, Illumina, Mastercard, Micron Technology, Qualcomm and Visa are also participating in the visit.
Trump’s visit is expected to focus on trade, economic cooperation and broader geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing. Discussions are likely to include tariffs, technology restrictions, investment, regional security issues, and efforts to stabilize relations between the world’s two largest economies amid ongoing strategic rivalry.
