Tbilisi City Hall has confirmed that the tender for the capital’s new tram line will close on March 31, with no further extensions planned.
Deputy Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze said the municipality expects the project to move forward promptly after the submission deadline, with contract signing to follow the selection of a winning bidder. Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, while full project completion is projected within three years.
The design phase alone is expected to take approximately six months.
City officials state that the project has attracted significant interest from international companies, including firms from China and Turkey. The municipality has worked closely with potential bidders throughout the process, including extending deadlines to ensure all qualified participants had sufficient time to prepare competitive proposals.
The tender was initially announced in October 2025, extended through January 2026 and then reissued in February with a final submission deadline set for March 31. Authorities say the adjustments are there to maximize participation and improve bid quality.
The planned tram line will span 7.5 kilometers, connecting the Didube and Dighomi metro stations. The project also includes the construction of a dedicated tram depot.
