Tbilisi City Court refuses to postpone Mikheil Saakashvili’s sentence

Tbilisi City Court refused to release former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili from his sentence, nor did it postpone it.

Judge Giorgi Arevadze announced the mentioned decision. With this, Arevadze did not satisfy the petition of Saakashvili’s lawyers.

“The hearing is over. I remind you that we held approximately 15 sessions and interrogated 24 witnesses. The materials of the case, the form of the motion, and the position of the opposing party are well known, so I would like to inform you of the decision not to grant the motion of Shalva Khachapuridze, the lawyer defending the interests of convicted Saakashvili, to release Mikheil Saakashvili from the sentence due to his illness or to postpone the execution of his sentence. The verdict can be appealed in the Criminal Chamber of the Tbilisi Court of Appeal”, said the judge.

The decision of the judge was followed by the dissatisfaction of the relatives and supporters of the former president.
