Tamar Gabunia: Delta Strain Spreads Twice as Fast

“A Canadian study published 2-3 days ago says that the Delta strain spreads twice as fast as other Covid variants. Thus, the risks associated with the Delta strain doubles all other risks and further increases the risk of hospitalization as well as death. With the Delta strain, we need to be doubly careful, which is not the case seen in Georgia,” said Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Health Minister.

She spoke about the reasons for the increased numbers of coronavirus cases, noting that we have a recent increase in mobility. There are street rallies, elections are being held. Gabunia noted elections are not a risk, the election environment is manageable, but after the elections, rallies are certainly a risk factor. She added that often, in this case, people do not wear masks and do not obey the Covid regulations.
