Georgia’s Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet will hold a three-day festival for the first time this May at the Tsinandali Estate amphitheater, a new addition to the country’s cultural calendar.
Scheduled for May 22–24, the festival will present different concert programs each day, drawing from the ensemble’s 80-year repertoire. The performances are designed to reflect various creative periods and stylistic evolutions in the company’s history, offering a broad overview of Georgian choreographic tradition and its modern interpretations.
The organizers stated that the opening day will focus on classical repertoire, while the second day will feature ‘Zekari,’ a piece first introduced in 2000 that marked a stylistic shift in the ensemble’s choreography by mixing traditional motifs with contemporary movement. The final day will be dedicated to ‘Karabsha,’ a more recent production that draws on Georgian folklore while emphasizing modern choreography and performance techniques.
In parallel with the main program, concerts by the children’s ensemble of the Sukhishvili Dance Academy are scheduled for May 23 and 24. The festival will also include an exhibition showcasing archival materials, costumes and photographs from the ensemble’s eight-decade history.
The event is organized by Silk Hospitality with support from SOLO. Additional partners include the Bank of Georgia.
