Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili confirms that the invitation of Irakli Kobakhidze to the reception of the President of the United States Joe Biden in New York has been canceled.
“One day the invitation sent by themselves was withdrawn the next day. Such behavior is simply not serious. First of all, this is an insult to America and the American people, which we saw with this behavior from the administration,” Papuashvili told journalists.
On the other hand, the Chairman of the Parliament said that the actions of the US President’s administration are a direct indicator of the state of the opposition in Georgia.
“The situation of the opposition is so deplorable that the American administration does not shy away from such substandard actions in order to somehow push the opposition to give them a topic to talk about. This is also one of the manifestations of interference in the internal politics of the country. For so many years, the American administration has called us our strategic partner, and at least they learned hospitality from the Georgian people. At least they could have taken this, but it seems that we could not share this properly,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
On September 25, Biden will host world leaders and high-ranking UN officials at a traditional reception in New York.
The information about the cancelation of the invitation to Kobakhidze was initially spread by “Voice of America”.
The US Embassy in Georgia confirms that the Biden administration refused to hold meetings with the Georgian delegation and canceled the invitation of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to the reception.
“The Biden administration canceled Prime Minister Kobakhidze’s invitation to the annual reception of the UN General Assembly and refused to meet with the Georgian delegation due to the Georgian government’s anti-democratic actions, misinformation and negative rhetoric about the United States and the West,” the US embassy told “Netgazeti”.
