The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) has announced that investigators are examining the documents, electronic devices, and large sums of money seized during the October 17 searches of the residences belonging to former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, former SSSG head Grigol Liluashvili, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, and several of their close associates.
SSSG says USD 7,002,200, GEL 136,000, 198 jewelry items and watches, as well as valuable paintings and thousands of pages of documentation were confiscated from multiple locations across Georgia. Law enforcement officers also seized 50 mobile phones and 119 electronic devices, all of which are now undergoing a detailed forensic review.
The searches were conducted in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office and involved around 230 officers across Tbilisi, Dedoplistskaro, Vani, Chokhatauri, and Borjomi municipalities. The investigation also targeted the homes of Romeo Mikautadze, Mikheil Chokheli, Vano and Tornike Parkauli, and Andria (Sandro) Liluashvili, along with their family members.
“Employees of the State Security Service and the Prosecutor General’s Office are currently processing the materials obtained during the searches. The origin of the seized cash will be determined, after which legal actions will be taken against the relevant individuals,” an SSSG representative stated at a briefing.
The Service emphasized that further investigative and operational steps will follow once the data retrieved from documents and electronic devices are analyzed.
The large-scale searches come amid a wider probe into alleged financial crimes and abuse of power by former high-ranking officials. Authorities have not yet disclosed specific charges but indicated that the results of the ongoing forensic and financial examinations will determine the next phase of legal proceedings.
