Speaker meets head of Mission for the European Union Monitoring Mission, discusses importance of EUMM

The Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili held a meeting with the newly appointed Head of Mission for the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia (EUMM), Dimitrios Karabalis.

Speaker Papuashvili congratulated the Greek diplomat on the appointment and expressed the commitment of the Georgian Parliament to closely cooperate with the Mission. The parties highlighted the value of the EUMM as the only international representation and the impartial source of information on the place and underlined the fact that due to the Russian hostility, the Mission is deprived of the capacity to fully realize its mandate and get access to the occupied regions.

Karabalis thanked the Speaker for supporting the Mission and stressed that by extending the mandate in December 2022, the EU continues to contribute to regional stability. At that, the parties overviewed the EUMM activity and the developments in the region.
