Sabuko, Society for Nature Conservation, within the framework of the project “Kakheti Steppes: Balancing between a Living Landscape or a Future Desert” signed a memorandum with the Association of Shepherds, according to which the parties announce cooperation regarding the sustainable management of pastures.
In addition, marketing mechanisms will be developed within the framework of mutual cooperation, which will give herders with sustainable grazing practices the opportunity to benefit from the improved production capacity of value-added products (eg, cheese).
The project is implemented within the framework of the protected areas of Chachuna and Vashlovani, Kotsakhura and Samukhi Valley “Emerald Network”. The goal is to restore the ecological integrity of the arid meadows, barren lands, and riverside landscapes of the Iori Valley in order to promote the protection of key species, increase resilience to climate change, and introduce sustainable pastoralism.
