Tensions escalated in Tbilisi after protesters forced their way into the yard of President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s administration on Atoneli Street.
Special police units deployed on the scene used pepper spray and water cannon to disperse the demonstrators.
The incident comes as mass rallies on Rustaveli Avenue and Freedom Square are ongoing. Paata Burchuladze and organizers of the Rustaveli Avenue movement have declared the formation of a “national assembly,” adopted a resolution to “return power to the people,” and demanded the immediate detention of key Georgian Dream leaders, including Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Protesters, many carrying Georgian flags, have blocked central streets for the 311th consecutive day of demonstrations, insisting on new parliamentary elections and the release of detained activists.
