Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili expressed optimism following the recent meeting between Georgia’s ambassador and the President of the United States.
“It is encouraging that our ambassador has already met with the US President and conveyed our messages. The previous administration had a different approach—now, that has changed. We are ready for a reset,” President Kavelashvili stated.
The President claimed that Georgia is awaiting reciprocal steps from Washington and remains fully open to dialogue.
“In our discussions, we focused on the values and challenges the current US administration is now addressing—issues we have been tackling for years. We were confronting those challenges, not the United States or the European Union. Unfortunately, we often faced double standards. It is noteworthy that the current administration has acknowledged this as well.”
Kavelashvili criticized the frequent labeling of Georgian positions as ‘pro-Russian,’ calling it a baseless and overused accusation.
“We are ready for a fresh start and await reciprocal steps. I believe a meeting will take place once the situation is fully understood. We are not shifting our course. We remain transparent with the public about our goals and chosen path. The responsibility for any countermeasures lies with the current US administration, particularly the Secretary of State. Our door to dialogue remains open,” he emphasized.
Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States, Tamar Taliashvili, recently presented her credentials to President Donald Trump at the White House.
As part of the ceremony, Ambassador Taliashvili met with President Trump, who extended his best wishes to the Ambassador in her future endeavours.
“It was a significant day for US-Georgia relations. I had the honor of presenting my Letters of Credence to the President of the United States, Donald Trump. During our conversation, I also conveyed the greetings and best wishes of the Government of Georgia, the Georgian people, the Prime Minister, and the President of Georgia. I shared with President Trump the key messages that define our country’s position toward the United States – messages that reflect Georgia’s readiness to open a new chapter in our bilateral relationship, grounded in mutual benefit and strengthened partnership. We are committed to deepening the people-to-people connections that already exist between our nations,” Ambassador Taliashvili stated following the ceremony.
The Ambassador emphasized the “cordial and friendly atmosphere” in which the meeting took place. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was also in attendance at the ceremony.
“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the US administration for making it possible to organize this important ceremony involving Georgia in such a short time frame. It is also important to highlight the strong support we received to ensure that all necessary procedures were completed as swiftly and efficiently as possible,” she added.
Ambassador Taliashvili also noted that a day prior to the presentation of the Letters of Credence, she had a “productive and meaningful” meeting with the Chief of Protocol of the United States, Ambassador Monica Crawley.
“The meeting was conducted in a very warm and friendly atmosphere. Throughout these engagements, we had the opportunity to discuss ways to further strengthen Georgia–US relations and to outline the action plan that will guide our future cooperation, ensuring that it remains strong, strategic, and enduring,” she concluded.
