A wide range of events are planned to mark the 1,700th anniversary of Christianity being declared the state religion of Georgia, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said.
Speaking on the Imedi LIVE television program, Kobakhidze stated that the anniversary celebrations will include a diverse program of events both in Georgia and abroad, including activities at Georgian embassies and with the active involvement of the Georgian diaspora.
“There is a very diverse range of events that will be held to celebrate the anniversary, including the celebration of May 26, which will be held entirely under the auspices of the 1,700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion,” the Prime Minister said.
Kobakhidze claimed that the program will feature scientific conferences, expeditions, cultural initiatives, and other activities involving representatives of different generations and social groups.
The Prime Minister also noted that specific events are planned abroad, including at Georgian embassies, while clergy visits to diaspora communities are also expected as part of the commemorative activities.
Kobakhidze added that the organizing commission has already largely finalized the event plan and that detailed information will be presented to the public in the near future.
