We expect a far-sighted and fair decision from Europe to truly achieve the candidate status with merit, Georgia deserves the EU candidate status, said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, at the opening of the Silk Road Forum.
He stated that joining the family of European nations has always been important for Georgia.
“The government’s achievements, such as the Association Agreement with the European Union, the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, the visa-free regime with the European Union, and of course, all of this confirms the geopolitical priority, including the European perspective, which was confirmed last June. We can truly say that we expect a far-sighted and fair decision from Europe to truly achieve the candidate status with merit, and it will be a joint effort of our people and government. I would like to emphasize that Georgia really has a worthy place in Europe and Georgia deserves the status of a candidate for the European Union. We are optimistic that the progress of Georgia will be positively assessed by the European Commission, which will pave the way for us to become a candidate,” said Irakli Garibashvili.
Tbilisi is hosting the Silk Road Forum on October 26-27.
