Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze held a briefing during which he claimed that the elections were taking place in a “peaceful environment,” stating that over 3,100 of Georgia’s 3,111 polling stations were operating without issues, despite multiple reports of violence.
He accused opposition-leaning TV stations of exacerbating tensions and questioned the timing of their coverage of incidents, suggesting that many incidents were staged or incited by the journalists on the ground.
Kobakhidze asserted that the Georgian Dream party has achieved a “landslide victory,” although he noted that a constitutional majority is not yet guaranteed, and urged citizens to vote. He reiterated the GD’s narrative, framing the elections as a choice between “war and peace,” “immoral propaganda and traditional values,” and “the dark past of the country and the bright European future of Georgia.”
45 minutes are left until polling stations close.
