Nine arrested in Georgia’s nationwide illegal arms raids

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported the arrest of nine individuals, including foreign ones, during the countrywide raids targeting illegal firearms.

Primary operations:

  • Tbilisi: A 35-year-old convicted offender was arrested with a pistol, muzzleloader, and 12 cartridges.
  • Eastern Georgia (Lagodekhi, Kvareli, Dedoplistskaro, Sagarejo): Four individuals were arrested; authorities seized four pistols, three firearms, a hunting rifle, an automatic weapon, 77 cartridges, and a hand grenade.
  • Adjara Region: A foreign national was detained with a firearm, 41 cartridges, and a magazine.
  • Marneuli: A foreign national was arrested; a firearm, 10 cartridges, and a magazine were seized.
  • Shida Kartli: A 39-year-old was detained with a firearm, muzzle, and 15 cartridges.

All the above suspects will be charged with unauthorized possession and storage of firearms, which imply significant prison sentences of up to seven years.
