The National Democratic Institute (NDI) announced today the start of its Pre-election Assessment Mission (PEAM): a series of high-level meetings ahead of the 2024 Georgian parliamentary elections designed to assess the electoral environment.

The mission aims to demonstrate support for Georgia’s democratic development and the public’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration by providing constructive recommendations to ensure adherence to the principles of genuine democratic elections and political processes.

The delegation will issue a statement of findings and recommendations following the completion of its analysis. NDI’s PEAM delegation will meet electoral stakeholders during the period of February 19-23.

The delegation will meet with party representatives, government officials, as well as representatives of civil society, media and the international community to discuss the general political electoral environment ahead of 2024 Parliamentary elections and assess factors that could impact electoral integrity, including a review of the election administration, citizen participation, gender and inclusion, the legal framework, the information environment, and political parties and campaigning.

These meetings are the first phase of NDI’s broader observation, which will include a second PEAM, long-term analysis, and an election day delegation. NDI’s international PEAM will be conducted in accordance with Georgian law and the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation.

This program is made possible with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS).
