30-40 brigades will be added to the vaccination centers operating in Tbilisi from next week, Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, has announced.
He noted that over 25,000 people have been registered for the Chinese-made ‘Sinopharm’ vaccine jabs across the country so far. Presently, all the available places for the vaccine ‘Sinopharm’ in Tbilisi have been reserved.
Gamkrelidze added that at the moment immunization is not carried out in some of the vaccination centers on a daily basis, while from next week it is planned that the vaccination centers will switch to a 5-day working regime in the regions and a 6-7-day working regime in Tbilisi.
NCDC Head said the goal of the vaccination program is to vaccinate 5,000 people every day in May, and in June this number will increase to 6-7 thousand.
He pointed out that mass immunization should start in the country from June and 10-15 thousand people should be vaccinated daily, as a result of which up to 60% of the Georgian population will be vaccinated by the end of December.
Vaccination with Sinopharm started in Georgia on May 4.
On May 6, the country received 43,000 more doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the COVAX platform, intended for those who have already received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The registration of citizens for the second dose of AstraZeneca started on May 5, while vaccination will be available from May 10.
