Mzia Amaglobeli’s lawyer, Maia Mtsariashvili, has said the legal team plans to submit Amaglobeli’s case to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
During the Batumi City Court hearing, Mtsariashvili declared that the charges against Amaglobeli were being manipulated. “Although the case is now entering the substantive review phase, we will soon file a complaint with the Strasbourg Court,” she stated. She also pointed out broader implications of the case, saying that more than one branch of the system was working against Amaglobeli to ensure she remains ‘a captive rather than a prisoner.’
Mtsariashvili has requested that Irakli Dgebuadze, head of the Batumi Division of the Adjara Police Department, be called for questioning. However, the court rejected a separate request to question officers Gocha Vanadze and Nodar Zenaishvili. The decision has caused frustration among Amaglobeli’s supporters in the courtroom, who responded with chants and accusations against the judge.
Amaglobeli’s trial continues, with Judge Nino Nameshvili presiding over the case and supporters gathered at the courthouse holding banners that read ‘Free Mzia!’
