On October 31, the European University in Tbilisi will host a Model UN Security Council open debate on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). The initiative, organized in partnership with UN Women Georgia, aims to engage students in one of the most pressing issues on the global peace agenda.
The simulation is based on the practice of the UN Security Council’s annual open debate on WPS and will allow participants to step into the roles of Security Council member states, civil society representatives and UN agencies. Students will also serve as debate chairs and rapporteurs, developing skills in diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking.
The program targets students of law, humanities and social sciences who are interested in women’s and youth’s roles in peace and security. In preparation, participants will take part in training sessions covering UNSC resolutions, past statements and the WPS and YPS agendas. Mentoring will be provided by UN staff and academic experts.
The debate will take place at the European University campus in Tbilisi, on Sarajishvili Street, on October 31.The best-performing students will have the opportunity to attend an international event on Women, Peace and Security at the end of 2025.
