The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued a statement regarding the protest rally held in Tbilisi on October 4.
The ministry says the demonstration, which was declared as aiming to overthrow the government, “quickly took on an illegal character,” prompting police to use “proportionate measures in line with the highest legal standards” to enforce the law.
The MIA warned that any gatherings held in the coming days will be regarded as a continuation of yesterday’s events. “Based on the developments of October 4, we consider that any assembly held today and in the following days will be treated as a continuation of yesterday’s attempt, and we will take appropriate measures to prevent threats to public order and security,” the statement reads.
The ministry added that law enforcement will continue to identify and prosecute violators, and called on the public to refrain from actions that could lead to legal consequences.
