Georgia has extended its long-term gas supply agreement with Azerbaijan for another 20 years, securing annual deliveries of 500 million cubic meters of gas, the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze made the remarks in response to questions from BMG about the terms of the renewed contract, stating that the overall volume of gas supply under the agreement remains unchanged.
He said the deal continues on the same basis as the previous 20-year contract, which expired this year, adding that Georgia will still receive 500 million cubic meters of gas annually under “social” pricing conditions.
“The main essence is that the 20-year contract has been extended for another 20 years. The volume has not changed, and the same 500 million cubic meters of gas will enter Georgia under this agreement,” Kobakhidze said.
The prime minister also referred to multiple gas supply arrangements between the two countries, including Shah Deniz and the South Caucasus Pipeline, saying Georgia benefits from “good terms” across all major agreements.
He added that overall guaranteed gas volumes for Georgia have increased, describing the country’s position in energy cooperation with Azerbaijan as strengthened.
