Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze demanded the resignation of Ninia Macharashvili, Director of the Tbilisi Municipal Multifunctional Library Union, following the release of a post on the organization’s official Facebook page on November 30, supporting 246 employees of the establishment who protested the Georgian government’s recent actions.
Macharashvili told Tabula that Irakli Gvilava, the head of the Culture, Education, Sports, and Youth Affairs Department, asked her to file a resignation letter. Macharashvili claimed that this demand was the result of contrasting political views concerning recent events.
“Irakli Gvilava, head of the Culture, Education, Sports, and Youth Affairs Department, asked me to write a resignation letter with two motives: ‘Our attitudes (mine and the mayor’s office) regarding ongoing events do not align.’ It was also stated that Kakha Kaladze has a personal dislike toward me,” Macharashvili said.
Macharashvili stated that she does not plan to write a resignation letter and will protect her rights.
