Heavy hail and wind damaged 4600 hectares of vineyards in the Kakheti region: Kvareli, Telavi, and Gurjaani municipalities this week.
Locals say the losses are huge and they have been left without income this year. Up to 300 hectares of vineyards were 80% destroyed.
Farmers whose grapes have been completely destroyed will receive 3000 GEL per hectare as a one-time compensation. The Government of Georgia is also going to pay 80 tetri for 1 kg of the Rkatsiteli grape variety and 1 GEL for Saperavi.
