One of the leaders of the Opposition Alliance, Nika Gvaramia, addressed participants at a protest rally held on May 26, expressing confidence that new elections will be held soon and calling for the removal of Bidzina Ivanishvili from Georgia’s political system.
“We are waiting for you at the next rally very soon. Very soon we will have new, real elections and we will have Bidzina Ivanishvili expelled from the political system of this country,” Gvaramia said.
He claimed that the Opposition Alliance is launching a nationwide campaign titled “Georgia Deserves Better”, which he said will culminate in new democratic elections.
“Georgia does not deserve the bandit regime of Bidzina Ivanishvili,” Gvaramia said, adding that the campaign aims to end what he described as an “anti-Georgian regime.”
During his speech, Gvaramia also greeted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is currently on a regional visit and in Yerevan, calling on rally participants to light up their phone flashlights as a symbolic gesture.
“We greet Marco Rubio, the US, the EU, our great British brothers, everyone who loves Georgia and who loves us Georgians,” he stated.
Gvaramia also addressed what he called the “invisible participants” of the rally, including “Georgian political prisoners” and emigrants living abroad, saying they would one day visibly participate in the country’s future.
In addition, he called on demonstrators to launch one-minute Facebook Live broadcasts to share their expectations of the opposition and their vision for Georgia’s future.
“I would like to ask you not to be lazy, to dedicate a minute to your Facebook Live and to talk for a minute about what you want from the opposition, how you see the next days, weeks, months. All these lives will be seen and taken into account,” Gvaramia said.
