German Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck declared during the opening of ITB Berlin, the world’s largest tourism exhibition, that “Georgia wants to advance towards Europe and Europe is awaiting Georgia.”
Habeck addressed the 2008 August War in his speech and said that Georgia had gone through a comparable [conflict] to the one that is currently taking place in Ukraine.
“What Russia did in Georgia in 2008 was probably a sign showing that Russian leader Putin had turned into a tyrant, and we all see that the current problems in Ukraine kicked off in Georgia [in 2008],” he added.
Georgia is the official host country of ITB Berlin 2023. The exhibition, with the theme Boundless Hospitality, will feature participation from more than 80 Georgian tourism and hospitality businesses.
Up to 200,000 visitors from more than 180 countries attend the world’s largest tourism exhibition in Berlin.
