Geostat: Georgia records -0.4% monthly inflation, 5.5% annual rate in July

Geostat: Georgia records -0.4% monthly inflation, 5.5% annual rate in July

The National Statistics Office of Georgia reported that in July 2026, compared to the previous month, the inflation rate in Georgia stood at -0.4%, while the annual inflation rate reached 5.5%.

Geostat stated that the inflation rate in July 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year amounted to 3.8%, while the annual core inflation rate excluding tobacco products was recorded at 3.5%.

The following groups had the biggest impact on the monthly inflation rate:

Food and non-alcoholic beverages: Prices in this group decreased by 0.9%, which contributed -0.3 percentage points to monthly inflation. Price decreases were recorded in the following subgroups: vegetables and melons (-12.3%), fruits and grapes (-2.8%), sugar, jam and other confectionery products (-0.8%), mineral and spring water, soft drinks and natural juices (-0.5%), meat and meat products (-0.3%), and fish (-0.1%).

Price increases were recorded in the following subgroups: coffee, tea and cocoa (2.3%), milk, cheese and eggs (2.1%), oils and fats (1.2%), and bread and bakery products (0.7%). Clothing and footwear: Prices in this group decreased by 4.9%, contributing -0.22 percentage points to monthly inflation. Prices declined in both clothing (-6.4%) and footwear (-2.4%) subgroups. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: Prices in this group increased by 0.8%, contributing 0.08 percentage points to monthly inflation. The increase was mainly driven by actual rentals for housing (2.3%) and maintenance and repair of dwellings (1.3%).

Geostat stated that the following groups had the biggest impact on the formation of annual inflation:Food and non-alcoholic beverages: Prices in this group increased by 4.9%, contributing 1.74 percentage points to annual inflation. Price increases were recorded in the following subgroups: fish (18.2%), meat and meat products (9.2%), bread and bakery products (8.1%), oils and fats (7.6%), coffee, tea and cocoa (6.4%), milk, cheese and eggs (4.2%), fruits and grapes (2.5%), sugar, jam and other confectionery products (1.7%), mineral and spring water, soft drinks and natural juices (1.5%). At the same time, prices for vegetables and melons decreased by 5.7%. Transport: Prices in this group increased by 14.2%, contributing 1.66 percentage points to annual inflation. Price increases were recorded for the operation of personal transport equipment (20.1%) and transport services (10.8%).

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: Prices in this group increased by 8.3%, contributing 0.8 percentage points to the overall inflation index. Price increases were recorded in the following subgroups:

  • Electricity, gas and other fuels (10.4%);
  • Actual rentals for housing (8.2%);
  • Maintenance and repair of dwellings (8.0%).

Health: During the reporting period, prices in this group increased by 4.7%, contributing 0.4 percentage points to overall inflation. Price increases were recorded in medical products, appliances and equipment (7.7%) and outpatient medical services (2.7%).
