The Georgian government has announced one-time financial assistance for World War II veterans and the families of those killed in the war in connection with the 81st anniversary of the victory over fascism.
Based on a government decree, World War II participants registered in the electronic database of the State Service for Veterans’ Affairs will receive 2,000 GEL in one-time social assistance, while family members of those who died during the war will receive 1,000 GEL.
The government administration said the assistance will be distributed across Georgia through the Social Service Agency, operating under the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection.
Authorities noted that the arrangement excludes beneficiaries registered in Tbilisi, where the financial assistance will instead be funded and issued by Tbilisi City Hall.
The payments are being issued ahead of May 9 commemorations marking the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II, a date traditionally observed in Georgia and other post-Soviet countries as Victory Day.
