Georgian banks post GEL 238M profit in January

Georgian banks post GEL 238M profit in January

Financial statements submitted to the National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reveal that 14 out of 18 commercial banks in Georgia reported profits, while four ended the month with losses.

The total net profit of Georgian banks reached GEL 238 million, a 1% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Bank of Georgia led the sector with GEL 126 million in net profit, reflecting a 4% year-on-year growth. TBC Bank followed with GEL 89 million, and Liberty Bank ranked third with GEL 11.4 million, showing a remarkable 43% increase.

Meanwhile, four banks reported losses, with VTB Bank suffering the largest deficit at GEL 12 million. Silk Bank posted a GEL 1.6 million loss, while Hash Bank and PayBank reported losses of GEL 0.6 million and GEL 0.1 million, respectively.

Most Profitable Banks (January 2025):

  1. Bank of Georgia – GEL 126M (+4% y-o-y)
  2. TBC Bank – GEL 89M (+3% y-o-y)
  3. Liberty Bank – GEL 11.4M (+43% y-o-y)
  4. Credo Bank – GEL 7.3M (+338% y-o-y)
  5. Basis Bank – GEL 7.1M (-12% y-o-y)
  6. Terabank – GEL 3M (+61% y-o-y)
  7. ProCredit Bank – GEL 2.9M (-34% y-o-y)
  8. Cartu Bank – GEL 1.6M (-52% y-o-y)
  9. Halyk Bank – GEL 1.5M (+37% y-o-y
