The Georgian government has approved a new set of reforms to strengthen the oversight of technical inspection centers with stricter standards for infrastructure, equipment and staff qualifications.
A primary element of the reform is the creation of a unified electronic database that will store all inspection-related data. The Land Transport Agency will take over responsibility for managing this database from the National Accreditation Body and must have the system fully operational by December 31, 2026. Inspection centers will be required to submit all data electronically. The amendments also mandate the installation of video surveillance systems in every testing area, ensuring that each stage of the inspection process is recorded. Both the Land Transport Agency and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will have access to these video feeds.
Giorgi Shiolashvili, Executive Director of the Union of Technical Inspection Centers, pointed out that vehicles will no longer be allowed to leave the testing area until the inspection process is fully completed. In addition, technical inspection centers will undergo mandatory annual evaluations. These reviews will assess infrastructure, equipment, software and overall facilities.
