The Georgian government has approved feasibility studies for two new solar power plants in Kakheti, another step in the country’s strategy to enhance renewable energy capacity.

Decree signed by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze shows that the projects, Patardzeuli 1 and Patardzeuli 2, will be developed under an agreement between the Electricity System Commercial Operator (ESCO) and Kakheti Sun LLC.

Public registry records show Kakheti Sun LLC is fully owned by Velia LLC, with Nino Mchedlishvili holding a 67% stake and Lasha Iordanishvili controlling the remaining 33%.

The plants will be relatively small in scale but significant in contribution:

  • Patardzeuli 1will have an installed capacity of 1.75 MW, producing an estimated 2.96 million kWh annually.
  • Patardzeuli 2will also operate at 1.75 MW capacity, with expected annual output of 2.84 million kWh.
