“Georgian Dream” announces the creation of a public registry, where they will enter the data of people who, according to them, are “involved in violence, other illegal actions, threats and blackmail, or publicly approve of such actions”. The Chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, announced this at a specially held briefing.
“Based on the decision of the political council of “Georgian Dream” through the party structures, we are starting to create a database, where information will be collected about all the people who are involved in violence, other illegal actions, threats and blackmail, or who publicly approve of such actions. This database will be placed on a special website and will be public and transparent for Georgian citizens. All measures will be taken against these persons within the framework of the constitution and the law, so that violations of the law, violence and threats do not remain without the response of the state or the society”, said Shalva Papuashvili.
He claimed that the protests against the Russian law, the core of which are young people, are violent in nature. Papuashvili explains that the purpose of creating a database is not only to protect state institutions and law enforcement, but also “legitimate interests of outstanding members of society”.
In addition, Papuashvili emphasized that the base will include those people who express their position through social networks, or approve of someone else’s position.
To the question, why is it necessary to create such a base, when responding to crimes or violations is the responsibility of law enforcement structures, Papuashvili answers as follows:
“There is a criminal dimension, which is a crime – whether it is violence or threats, and there is a dimension where there is pressure on people, blackmailing, blackmailing their family members, etc. which does not fit into the criminal dimension, and here, of course, moral evaluation is important”.
