We are concerned about recent developments in the country, following the recently published first findings of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) on the legislative elections in Georgia, which indicate “pressure, intimidation and intimidation” of voters and “democratic backsliding” – the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs writes of the legislative elections in Georgia conducted on October 26.
“We expect the Georgian authorities to investigate the violations revealed before and during the voting and to implement the recommendations of the OSCE and the Council of Europe’s Commission for the Protection of Democracy through Law, known as the Venice Commission.
“Respect and protection of fundamental freedoms, political pluralism and civil society are needed in order for Georgia to confirm its European basis,” the statement concludes.
