Fredo Handmade: A Journey from Jewelry to Iconic Bags

The story of Fredo Handmade began unexpectedly, with the inspiration drawn from laser-cut woodwork. As a result, the founder started creating jewelry, including rings, necklaces, and other similar accessories. Despite the brand’s primary focus being handmade bags currently, its initial success came from the necklace in the shape of the Georgian map. “This necklace brought us immense popularity,” recalls the founder, Sopo Uznadze.

At first, the jewelry was crafted for friends but the business soon expanded and reached online platforms, which currently hold over 100,000 followers. “After creating our page, we also began making bags. Today, we’re proud to say we have loyal customers and active supporters,” the founder shares.

The inspiration behind bag production goes back to the founder’s grandmother of German origin who often sent leather garments, which eventually put the ideas into practice. “Once I mastered laser woodwork, I started experimenting with leather. Combining my grandmother’s leather with wooden frames, I designed our first bags about seven years ago. Back then, there weren’t many handmade bag options in the market,” she explains. Fredo’s customers can select from a huge variety.

Sales and Growth

The brand sells between 100 to 150 bags monthly, with sales piling up during holidays.  “Of course, our early pieces had imperfections, but our first customers supported us anyway. Looking back, our initial quality wasn’t as high as it is now. Over time, we refined our craft, and today, I’m proud of what we offer,” the founder says. She also extends gratitude toward initial customers who spread the word regarding the brand’s quality.

The Story Behind the Name

The name Fredo was just as spontaneous as the brand’s creation. The founders were inspired by Al Pacino, whose full name is Alfredo Pacino, and his presence in the film ‘Scent of a Woman’ inspired the team to create accessories for women.

“Every piece is crafted with attention to detail, providing the personalized designs with designs or embroidery to our customers,” the founder states. Such dedication ensured Fredo Handmade proved itself synonymous with quality and creativity.

At the moment, the brand is crafting a new collection, set to be introduced to the audience in early Spring of 2025.
